Designing die inserts by additive approach: a test case

The die manufacturing industry is widely based on the use of conventional machining tools. However, several studies have proposed Additive Manufacturing (AM) for molds and inserts in last ten years. AM flexibility allows designing complex surfaces. This can be used to optimize cooling channels (conformal cooling). research aims evaluate whether Design commercial tools employed redesigning inserts. Besides, paper describes a method redesign insert High-Pressure Die Casting using Selective Laser Melting. A test case analyze an insert’s process improving thermal exchange material distribution. simulation supports drafting conclusions from results.
